You need few in-depth characters that you get emotionally engaged with, characters you can have extensive dialogues with and in-depth romance relationship. We do not need 250 NPCs, 60 followers and 40 romance options. I was genuinely intrigued by what is going it, constantly compelled to go further, uncover the mysteries and find a way to save Enderal. In general, they took Skyrim as a platform, and built a proper game on it. Just yesterday I wrote an utterly positive review on Steam, so I have it fresh in mind. I assume people reading this have finished playing Enderal, but if not, then SPOILER ALERT! The positives vastly outweigh the negatives. But for a conversion mod of this scale and quality it's very minor stuff. I really wish we had more freedom of choice, more companions that we can influence, more skill tree variety (combining block and heavy armor into one tree was a crime). The game is not without its flaws, though. Huge reason why the story is so good is because it strays off from the typical "good guys beat the bad guy" arc. You won't end up with tens of thousands of gold in your first two hours of the game like in that certain other game.Īnd of course the story. The economy in Enderal is also much better since you need a lot of gold to buy skill books. In Skyrim you can go to almost any legendary tomb at level 1 and be fine. The unleveled world rewards you for looting overleveled zones and gives you that great feeling of dread when you stumble upon a place your character isn't ready for. No more fear of using staves to kill an enemy. No more grinding illusion by spamming Muffle. No more bashing mudcrabs to level up Block. I'm a huge Gothic fan and the exp system is so much better than Skyrim's. By comparison, most characters in Skyrim don't really evolve throughout the course of the game.įinally, there's the levelling system. I also prefer this Bioware-like character crafting with dialogue options that affect their alignment and let them show some actual depth. Such as the Harbor fishery, unrelated to any quest, but fully furnished with realistic storage, cranes and even a retro cold room for storing caught fish. Even smaller places completely unrelated to the story are extremely detailed. The beautiful Crystal Forest, the cheerful Riverville and Farmer's Coast, the chilling post-apocalyptic Thalgard, the desolate and deadly Powder Desert, the awesome autumn themed Goldenforst for all my fellow Riften lovers. All areas have so much thought put into them. The cities in Skyrim are very memorable and soulful, but let's face it - they're tiny. Ark in Enderal feels like a proper city, very similar to Novigrad in The Witcher 3.
